March For Life

The March For Life was held this past Monday.  A van from the Johnstown area stopped for lunch on its way into Washington. The Sr. ACRY served the travelers a hot lunch and other refreshments in preparation for their day.  The ACRY would like to thank everyone who helped with the luncheon.  Thank you ACRY.  God Bless!

Iconastas Project

A project is in the works to put woodwork over the blue panels on each side of the Iconastas.  This project will enhance the beauty of the current Iconastas and bring more continuity to the icon screen.  If you would like to make a donation towards the funds to be used in completing this project, please mark an envelope with Icon Screen Project and turn it in to the treasurer or place it in with your weekly donation to the Church.  Thank you and God Bless.

Super Bowl Sub Sale

The Jr. ACRY is having its annual Super Bowl Sub Sale.  The orders are due in by January 28.  Please turn in your orders to Chris or Michael Fallon. The Subs will be available for pick-up on February 4.  Order forms are available in the hall.  Please mark any special requests on the order.

The sandwiches will be made fresh by the Jr. ACRY on February 3.

Home Blessings

Father will begin blessing homes following the Feast of Theophany.  If you would like to have your home blessed, there are forms in the hall to schedule a home blessing.  Please fill out a form and place in the hall in the box provided.

Come Receive The Light

Come Receive The Light, the flagship radio program of Orthodox Christian Networks had its special commemoration last Sunday. There is a special envelope for this special donation.  Please fell free to use this envelope for your donation.

Annual Meeting

Join your fellow parishioners at the Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, February 25, 2007 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.  A packet of reports is being distributed after church on February 11, one to a family, so you have time to read them prior to the meeting.  The reports include the Annual Meeting agenda, minutes of the previous annual meeting, the 2006 Treasurer's report, President's report, 2007 proposed Budget, the Capital Improvements Fund Master Plan, Election of Officers, and proposed Bylaw Changes Summary.

Come and participate in making future business decisions and elect Council officers for the positions of Vice President, Financial Secretary, Curator, and one Auditor.  Descriptions of the officer's responsibilities are included in the Election of Officers report.  If you are interested in an officer position, please talk with John Hrapchak or the chair of the nominating committee.

Sr. ACRY "Cash Day"

Tickets for the Sr. ACRY sponsored "Cash Day" are now available.  "Cash Day" will be held on February 11, in the afternoon.  All are welcome and invited to the event.  Please see any member of the Sr. ACRY to purchase tickets.  There is only a short time before the event so please lend a hand by purchasing a ticket and taking some to sell. There will also be a pot luck style meal served at the event.

Talk

Today there will be a calendar change discussion during the coffee hour led by John Hrapchak and Fr. Miles.  This topic arose at the last annual meeting, and the Council wanted to provide information and discussion to clarify questions prior to the annual meeting on February 25, 2007.  We hope you can participate. 

Bagged Lunches

The Social Concerns Committee will be preparing bag lunches for the homeless shelter on February 14.

March For Life

The Annual March For Life will be held this Monday, January 22, in Washington, D.C.

Also, the Sr. ACRY will be serving a lunch for those traveling to the March from the Diocese.  The group from the Johnstown  area will be arriving in the morning between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

There will also be a Vespers service at St. Nicholas Cathedral in D.C., Today, Sunday, January 21, at 6:00 p.m. Metropolitan Herman will preside at the vespers. A brief fellowship hour will follow. You will have the opportunity to meet members of Orthodox Christians for Life from around the country.

The annual Christian Unity Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church located at 11200 Old Georgetown Rd in Bethesda.  The service will be held on Sunday, January 21, beginning at 3:00 p.m.  All are invited to attend.  Please see the flyer in the hall.

Daniel Timko gave a presentation about life in Iraq today. Daniel has spent time in Iraq serving in the U.S. Military. The talk was sponsored by the Sr. ACRY.

Bagged Lunches

The Social Concerns Committee will be making up bagged lunches Today following the Divine Liturgy. The lunches will be for the homeless shelter in Rockville. We can help support the local homeless in this small way by aiding the shelter in supplying for the daily needs of those they minister to at the shelter. Everyone is invited to help with this project. We will also prepare bag lunches on February 14.

Congratulations

Linda & Brian Antonishek had a baby girl on Friday, January 12. Megan Lynn was born 7 lbs 13 oz and 19 3/4 inches. Mother and baby are doing well. They are both at Montgomery General Hospital. May God grant to them Many Years!
