Church Picnic
I would like to thank everyone who helped make the parish annual picnic a special event. Your efforts in planning and coordinating the event make it possible for all to enjoy the day.
I would like to thank Mark & Marie Sudik and those who assisted them for providing the preparation and set up for the picnic and for taking things down following the event.
Many thanks on behalf of the children for the Moon Bounce, bubbles, and other fun games.
Also, the Volunteer of the Year Award was given to Sheila Hrapchak for the many ways in which she has served our parish. Many Years & God Bless!
Iconastas Project
There are donation forms attached to the bulletin and are also available in the hall which have information about the Iconastas Project. The project will extend the current woodwork and add doors. You can use this form to make a donation towards the project or use a regular envelope.
Camp Forms
Our camp week at Camp Nazareth is July 15-21. Children who are ages 8-18 are eligible to attend. Registration forms and booklets are in the hall. Transportation will be arranged for the children .
Calendar Vote Information
The official ballots have been handed out after liturgy on both June 3 and June 10. Remaining ballots have now been mailed this past week. At any time, ballots can be turned in, but only to an SEC member. They must be returned by counting day, July 22. All are welcome to attend the counting. If you have any questions, contact an SEC member immediately. They are: Very Rev. Fr. Miles, Michael Buchko, Jr., Marie Sudik, Kevin Lindsay, and Mark Braun.
Altar Boys Retreat
The Diocesan Altar Boy Retreat is scheduled for June 24-27, in Johnstown, PA. All Altar Boys of the parish are urged to participate in this fun and educational event. The cost of the retreat is underwritten by the Altar Boy Fund. There is also a special 50th anniversary event planned at Camp Nazareth from August 17-19.
New Priest
Fr. Peter Zarynow of our parish of Saint Mary’s in Yonkers, New York, has been assigned as the pastor here at Holy Resurrection. Fr. Peter’s first Sunday will be August 19, the Feast of our Lord’s Transfiguration. Fr. Peter’s wife is Pañi Bernadette and their eight year old son is Alexander.
Graduates
Our parish has four graduates this year. They are: Rachel Koval & Nicholas Rossovskij from High School & Rachel Ferguson & Thomas Koval from College. Please see the attached bios. for each of their achievements. God Bless each one of them.
Father’s Day
The parish Father’s Day Breakfast sponsored by the Sr. ACRY will be held Today following the Divine Liturgy. Everyone is welcome to attend as we honor our Fathers both living and those who have fallen asleep in the Lord.
Go With God
Fr. Karl Kish is on assignment on The Comfort, which is a hospital ship in use by the Navy. He is presently deployed until sometime in October or November. Please keep him, his family and all the crew in your prayers. S’Bohom!
Children’s Camp Fund
The parish Camp Fund helps defray the cost of transporting our children to Camp Nazareth. It is used to underwrite the cost of the van rental. Your donations help make the transportation possible.
Orientale Lumen XI
The Orientale Lumen XI conference will be held at the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington next to Catholic University from June 18 – 21. The theme of the conference will be "Icons - Expressions of Our Faith". Fr. Michael Rosco will be one of the speakers at the event. The Orthodox Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Michael Rosco on Tuesday, June 19, at 9:00 a.m. at the Ukrainian Nation Shrine located at 4250 Harewood Road NE. Anyone who is in attendance at the Liturgy is invited at no cost to the first plenary lecture at the Cultural Center. Fr. Robert Taft will be the speaker. IOCC
The IOCC Metropolitan Committee of DC invites everyone to participate in their Wine Tasting event being held at Saint Mark’s Church on River Road. The proceeds benefit IOCC. Information is posted in the hall. Please see Randy Verbrugge if you have any questions.
High School Graduates
Rachel Koval graduated from Colonel Zadok Magruder High School, was a member of the National Honor Society, President of the Spanish Honor Society, a Maryland Distinguished Scholar, Honorable Mention, received the Governor's Merit Scholastic Award, received a Certificate of Meritorious Service (a Community Service award), was Captain of the Swim Team, and participated in numerous school activities. She will attend the University of Maryland as a Business/Spanish major in the Fall. Rachel is the daughter of Thomas & Amy Koval
Nicholas Rossovskij graduated from Hammond High School in the top 10% of his class. He participated in varsity track, varsity cross country, engineering club and math team. Nicholas received the scholar athlete award both from his school and the state of Maryland for the past 3 years. He was a member of NHS. Nicholas served as a youth representative on Leadership Howard County's Leadership U steering committee, helping to coordinate and organize last year's leadership development program for high school juniors. Nicholas received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. He also received a Naval ROTC scholarship to Penn State and an Air Force ROTC to University of Maryland. Nicholas is the son of Constantine & Malina Sabak.
College Graduates
Rachel Ferguson graduated on May 13 from West Virginia University with two degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Forensic and Investigative Science with an emphasis in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She was accepted and will continue her education in the Forensic Biology Masters Program at the University at Albany in New York. Rachel is the daughter of Craig & Tania Ferguson.
Thomas Koval graduated Magna Cum Laude from Saint Mary's College of Maryland, was designated a Saint Mary's Scholar, was elected a member of the national leadership honorary society and the national economics honorary society, and held several positions in the student government. He will attend Law School at the University of Florida in the Fall. Thomas is the son of Thomas & Amy Koval
Youth Sojourn
The second Youth Sojourn sponsored by the Diocesan Apostolate for Youth will take place at Camp Nazareth on August 17-18. Registration forms are in the hall. More information will follow.
Diocesan Pilgrimage
The Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage will be held at Camp Nazareth on August 18-19. Please see the flyer posted in the hall. A sign up sheet for meal tickets will be posted in the hall.
