Announcements:

Confessions will be heard on Sunday mornings from 9:15-9:45am and by appointment. All faithful are encouraged to come to the Sacrament every 8 weeks, on average, to help maintain spiritual health. This is especially for those who frequently “with Faith and with Love come forward” to receive the Body and Blood of Christ.

Father has a new cell phone number: 301-367-9051. Please make note of it, especially for emergencies.

A reminder: This Tuesday, the Feast of the Beheading of John the Baptist, is a day of Strict Fasting, meaning no meat or dairy products are to be eaten. Also, as traditions have it, no food in the form of a head (cabbage, lettuce, etc) should be served and meals should not be served on or eaten off of a platter.

Saint Thomas Yard Sale Coming Soon: Our sister parish of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Waldorf will be holding its annual Building Fund Yard Sale on Saturday, September 29th. The faithful of Saint Thomas are very appreciative of your past support, especially for your recent donation of rectory furnishings. If you have no-longer needed treasures at home that you would like to donate to this year's sale, please bring them to the church hall. To schedule a pick-up for larger items or quantities, please call Steve or Nancy Hall at (301) 627-4676. Last day for donations is Sunday, September 16th. Thank you again for your continued support.

There will be a “Baking Day” on Saturday 22 September. A sign-up sheet is posted in the hall. We need as many hands as possible, so please try to make time to come and help. There will also be baking days in October and November. See Joanne Dzubak for details.

Shelia Hrapchak is in the process of organizing a new parish directory. If you have any changes, additions or deletions to be made, please contact her no later than 23 September. (410-381-2924 or hrapchak@juno.com)

The Social Concerns Committee will be constructing sandwiches and assembling bagged lunches for the Rockville Men's Shelter on Sept. 16. This time we will be making 60 bagged lunches. We need as much help as possible, especially the youth--older ones help with the sandwiches under adult supervision and the little tots can put the juice, fruit and snack pkgs. in the bags.

Do you miss being able to be at Divine Liturgy when you are sick at home and cannot make it to church? St. Nicholas of Myra Orthodox Church on 10th St. in Manhattan has a solution. A toll-free number is available to be able to listen to the Liturgy LIVE over the phone every Sunday morning at 10am (summer schedule 9:30am). Simply call 1-800-910-3597. Enter code (2546685#) and state your name. The phone will mute so that you can hear them but they cannot hear you.

A little something to think about….

A man came out of his house on his way to church one Sunday morning, just as his neighbor came out of his house with his golf clubs. The golfer said, “Tom, come play golf with me today.” Tom, with an expression of horror on his face replied, “This is the Lord’s Day, and I go to church. Certainly I would not play golf with you.” After a moment of silence, the golfer quietly said, “You know, Tom, I have often wondered about your church, and I admire your fidelity. You know also that this is the seventh time I have invited you to play golf with me, and you have never once invited me to go to church with you.”

Invite a friend to church!
